My Dresser DIY Makeover: Good Riddance Pink Bows
August 15, 2011 in Beige, Bright, Chic, DIY, Flea Market Finds, Pastels, Pink
We bought a new camera a few weeks ago, so now I can finally share some of my DIY’s! First up: a dresser I bought at a goodwill store. This is what it looked like when I brought it home:
*
Not so pretty. But it is solid wood and has a lovely classic shape and long legs, which I love.
*
I needed it to be a light color that didn’t stand out too much, so I chose one that had the same undertone as my walls. The detailsĀ are wooden sticks that I picked out of a bamboo place mat (!). I started by drawing the pattern on the front and sides with a pencil, then glued each stick on with regular wood glue. Tape held the sticks in place until the glue way completely dry.
*
Using my fingers, I added spackle to smooth out the edges of the sticks.
*
When the spackle was completely dry, I sanded it down with fine grain sand paper.
*
The plan included another coat of paint, but for now I like the crude look of the plaster. The pulls I got for free at a flea market about to close, I screwed them off of another dresser. What do you think?

my first thought was–”what magazine did this come from??”. Beautiful job on the dresser (looks like something from a retail store!) and great photography.

Wow, not only did you take a great picture but you also did an awesome job on the dresser (LOL the bows in the “before” made me laugh. Were those drawn on with crayons??) Ahhh, I love a good makeover!

How ingenious of you! I would never think of using bamboo sticks for detail. When I looked at the first pic I just assumed you had gotten narrow trim at a hardware store. I’m enjoying your blog.

Yes yes yes! DIY at it’s finest!! And did you do that painting also? If so, it’s time to open up shop for your art. I love your paintings.

Aww Adrianna you are way too nice! I did paint the stripes as well as the jellyfish, but the stripe one was never completely finished. If I ever decide to make an art shop, I will send you a pinting just for being so encouraging all this time ;)
