Ever since I laid my eyes on this beautiful image on my friend Nancy’s blog Marcus Design, I couldn’t stop thinking about that glorious three part, individually framed octopus print. Can you blame me?

Lord Bodner Octopus Study print via VANDM.
According to Natural Curiosities the print is originally taken from a copperplate engraving by Lord Bodner and was published in 1826 in London as part of a series studying creatures of the deep. I haven’t been able to find any more information on Lord Bodner, although I’d love to learn more about his work.

The octopus art print is available in the colorways brown and blue, and as a one piece print (42×54 in/ 107×137 cm, $750), or split into three individual prints:

The size of the individual print is 20×48 in (51×122 cm), total price is $1,650.00. Hmm… the three piece print is over twice the price of the one piece print. Might be tempted to buy the latter and cut it into three pieces myself. Notice that the print isn’t just cut into three parts though, a piece has been trimmed away at each side of the middle part to accommodate the matting/frame and gap between the frames when hung on the wall.

This print is also available in brown, which I think is the the colorway that The Cross Decor and Design used in the living room (first image).

LEFT PRINT / MIDDLE PRINT / RIGHT PRINT
And for those of us with a mortal wallet, here’s a more affordable alternative from AllPosters.com. Each print is 12×32 in (30×81 cm), total cost $105. Turquoise is nice, but I’d love to see these prints in other (less bright) colorways.

Now how about you? I’m sure this isn’t everyone’s cup of coffee, would you want to decorate our wall with a giant octopus print?

I must say, I LOVE the three piece octopus! So fab! I am not a fan of the price though. :)

i must admit, i love it too, even if it does scare me a bit too… but what seriously got me ooh-aahing is the color combo in the livingroom! i looove it, really, and have been planning a pink-blue-white-brown coloring for our new home ever since i saw that, and also the pale pink blue livingroom you shared some days ago. thank you for seriously inspiring images!!

There is such grace in this piece. You almost forget that what it is…and that might be a good thing! It certainly needs to be in just the right space and might not look good in every decor, but I think I could enjoy looking at it regularly. Really beautiful and ethereal!

Linda, thanks for linking up all your great coastal posts!!!!!
Regarding the octopus…, I’ve seen the Triptych around and love the impact it has in a room, especially when modern style. Would I want it in my house, no…, I prefer something more soothing.

Thanks for the shout out Linda! I loved this print when I first saw it as well! I agree with you, I would be pretty tempted to buy the less expensive print and cut it into 3. Maybe you can save up for it and drop birthday/christmas etc. hints at every chance you get!!
