I just had to share this fantastic tip I got from Austin Handler. Austin is one half of the design duo Mabley Handler Interior Design and he and his wife Jennifer Mabley also writes the blog “Designing the Hamptons“. The bedroom below is one of their designs:

*

Isn’t it just stunning? Mabley Handler Interior Design is known for their classically beautiful and timeless design style. I love how they brought nature into this bedroom with the two potted trees. Which brings me back to the tip he gave me; see the beautiful framed seafans above the bed? Well they are made by Karen Robertson:

*

Karen frames natural elements like butterflies, seafans, shells and sea stars.

*

And there you have my latest obsession; shadowboxes. In particular the double framed ones, with a glass back like these that Karen makes.

*

Don’t worry fellow animal lovers, the turtle shell is hand made ;)

*

I couldn’t resist making my own version of the double framed butterfly. Luckily I remembered to take some action shots (haha!) so I’ll post the instructions for you tomorrow if you want one too =) It’s not Karen Robertson caliber by any means, but it turned out nice even so. FYI it doesn’t involve real butterflies, but it looks very realistic. See a teaser pic here!

  1. Butterflies are “my thing”… love the shadow boxes…

  2. They are very pretty but honestly framing real butterflies kind of freaks me out a little! I love your fake framed ones on your facebook page, can’t wait to see how you did it:)

  3. The seafans are stunning!! I hope the butterflies aren’t real either though (the thought that they might be killed for decor is creepy). Double framed has a great effect!

  4. I was curious and checked Karen’s site…, yep, the butterflies come from their butterfly farms! Creepy!!

  5. I love this, and I can’t wait to see your instructions cause it looks kinda hard!! PS. That room is crazy stunning, don’t you love that little side table in the forefront?? I want it!!

  6. The natural elements are really taking center stage again in design, and I think it’s a great direction to go. I love that more people are appreciating the beauty of nature because designers are incorporating it more into their spaces. Love the floated frames!

  7. Hi This is such a beautiful bed – do you know where it is from
