MARK WILLIAMS DESIGN / YUMMY SCRUMPTIOUS
This living room made my heart skip a beat. The softness of the sheer draperies and the subtle patterns adds such a great depth to this traditionally styled living room. New traditional is definitely a good description for this beautiful home.

I’ve had a lot of questions about this koi wallpaper in the lovely powder room featured in this post. The wallpaper is obviously hand painted, which you can tell when there is no pattern repeat. I believe it’s from de Gournay (please correct me if I’m wrong), which means most of us can’t afford it.

Luckily I came across a more affordable version on Wallpaper Direct. What do you think? Is this a good alternative, or does the pattern repeat ruin the charm?

If there is one thing to love about classic buildings, it’s definitely the wainscot. And just to cover all bases, wainscot is wooden panels, most often seen covering the lower part of a wall. It was originally popular for its insulationg property, but is mostly used as decoration these days.
A more simple and less costly variant of wainscot is the shadow box molding. It’s basically just thin molding, and the possibilities are endless. Let’s take a look at some great examples:

The owners of this entryway added tall baseboards and shadow boxes on the lower half of the walls and even on the door, to make the space more interesting. It definitely worked!

Although these shadow boxes looks to be recessed, this style can easily be recreated with thin strips of molding. (to see paint color suggestion for this room click here )

Another example of shadow box molding. Such a great way to bring contrast to a dark paint color. (To see more of this bedroom and paint color suggestion, click here)

But that’s not to say that shadowbox molding doesn’t work equally well on lighter walls as well. You can see a very different take on this in the teen bedroom of the same home as the one above ;)

A beautiful beige living room decorated with shadow box molding. I think this is a great example of the depth this molding can create.

The moldings may be in a color contrasting to the paint color, or painted the same color as the walls to add texture instead of a prominent visual element. (You can see more of this bedroom here).

Mix it up for a more modern take. Here the boxes are designed in a geometric pattern, using bamboo moldings.

Here’s a fun example where the interior of the shadow boxes are painted a color that complements the general paint color. Such a fun and pretty dining room!

Another variation is to paint the moldings a color other than white (not pictured ;).

Or you can of course use beautiful wallpaper!

And here’s a fun option for renters: metallic tape shadow boxes!

Most of you have probably seen the beautiful home of Lisa Martensen already, but as I always say; revisiting a beautiful space never hurts ;)

Lisa is one half of the extremely talented design duo Martensen Jones. According to an interview she did with D Magazine, Lisa is quite the collector. That probably helps to explain her very interesting home. It’s full of beautiful objects she has collected from around the world, high end mixed with thrifts store gems. It’s layered and interesting, and edited to perfection.

Lisa confesses to be a huge fan of anything plaster. Just look at that marvelous stone table. I also adore the color palette in this dining room, kind of an understated boldness.

Even though most of the walls in her family room are covered in windows, Lisa still manages to display artwork by placing them in little easles.

Lisa sure knows how to decorate her bookcase, here displaying her books along with her collectibles. If you missed it, you can get a few tips on how to decorate your bookcase here ;)

Lisa’s bedroom is so beautiful and glamorous. Yet another proof that gray and beige can be mixed (see first proof here).

I love detail shots like these, don’t you? So much inspiration in the details.

Lisa’s bathroom is exceptionally beautiful, with cream white walls and marble counter tops and hexagonal tiles (which I professed my love for in this earlier post).

The sconces screams luxury. They are designed by Eric Cohler, we covered them earlier here ;)

I can’t help thinking of Pottery Barn’s Bevel Mirror when I see Lisa’s beautiful vanity. Do you think it’s the same one?

As a wonderful surprise in her light and airy home, Lisa went wild with her powder room. I just love a bold powder room!!

The wallpaper she used is called Pauline and is available at Studio Printworks in many color options.

Last but not least, daughter India’s bedroom. Her walls are hand painted muralist Jerrod Foote. That is one lucky girl!

Love how Lisa incorporated these ceramic birds into the mural.

I’ve noticed the Jacqui Console and Desk popping up in everywhere lately. I particularly loved it in Meg Braff’s home office also.

Hope you enjoyed this little house tour, and be sure to check out D Magazine to read the great interview they did with Lisa, for more details!
Time for some classic design inspiration. With all the color going on lately, this feels like a much needed break (no offense to bright pretty colors, we still love you). This particularly beautiful home is designed by Alexandra Rae.

The star of this dining room, with the calm minty color at a close second, is the amazing chandelier.
*
The marble fireplace ain’t too shabby either.
*
Paint color matches BM Dried Parsley. The fun thing about color is that it never stops to amaze; it looks sooo much more minty in the photo!
*
A beautiful beige and mint green bedroom. The glass table lamps and the mirrored chests adds a bit of glamour, wouldn’t you say?
*
Upon closer inspection, you can see that she added some subtle touches of yellow too.
*
The master bathroom is yet another shade of mint, a fresher cleaner one at that. Love the way Alexandra paired it with pink here.
*
Paint color is BM Cucumber.
