THE Chic Home Office

February 22, 2011 in Asian (Chinoiserie), Blue, Chic, Color Palette, Home office, Hottest Designers, Modern, Turquoise, Wallpaper / Tiles / Murals

image from Style Compass on 1st Dibs, photo by Melanie Acevedo.

Raise your hand if you haven’t seen this home office before. I’m guessing there aren’t a lot of hands in the air. Then you probably also know that this is Designer Mary McDonald‘s private home office. The feature wall is hand painted by Artist Jefferson Miles, and the classic black and white fashion photos include framed tear-outs from magazines.

Get the look with this gorgeous chinoiserie wallpaper by Sarah Hardaker. As the name implies, this wallpaper has a grand pattern, I’d love to see this one on a wall. The best thing about it is that you can order the wallpaper with any color you’d like, so as to match your wall color, for no extra cost! I never knew that was possible anywhere.

You can read more about Mary and her designs in one of 1st Dibs great Style Compass Magazines!

Gorgeous Gray and Orange Home Office

January 17, 2011 in Color Palette, Gray, Home office, Hottest Designers, Modern

This vibrant home office should definitely bring out your creative side. The rich gray walls sets the stage for a fresh punch of orange, while bright white and deep black provides drama and contrast. The girl behind this fabulous room is Interior Designer Cristi Holcombe.

*

The curtain fabric is called Arboretum and is designed by Thomas Paul for Duralee, available for purchase here. The tree pattern really reminds  me of sea fans.

*

You might recognize this rug from this earlier post, it’s Arabesque from Horchow!  When I saw it online I had no idea on how to use a bold rug like this, so it was such a treat seeing it in this room.

*

Jellyfish have always been so fascinating to me, so the artwork Cristi picked for this room is definitely a winner in my book.

*

I recognize those orange lanterns from Z gallerie, but last time I checked, they only had black ones left =(

*

Cristi was even generous enough to share the inside scoop of the wall paint color with us; it is  Gauntlet Gray by Sherwin Williams.

*

Head over to Cristi’s blog, and make sure you check out her portfolio too, it’s amazing! Thank you Cristi for sharing the deets!

Moody Gray Living Room

December 17, 2010 in Dramatic, Gray, Home office, Hottest Designers, Living room, Masculine, Modern

I’ve been aware of photographer Douglas Friedman‘s beautiful work for quite some time, and today I wanted to share this gorgeous home with you! I don’t know who designed these rooms (if you do, please let me know) but they are so moody and interesting. I just love the subtle touches of indigo in the deep gray rooms. It’s like a little teaser, a punch of color.. without the punch?

That horn chair in the foreground looks surprisingly comfortable..

The person that designed this room chose to layer two area rugs. I love this look, probably because I am crazy about rugs and love the layered look. What do you think, do you like this look?

This photo is a perfect illustration to prove two points: 1) You don’t need a lot of color to make a room look interesting. 2) If you go for a monochromatic color scheme, be sure to use a lot of different textures instead.

I just adore this photo. My home is always filled with plants and flowers. These are Ranunculus if I’m not mistaken.

How could I resist including this bedroom? What with the big Equestrian trend we see everywhere these days?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Colorful Teen Bedroom

November 22, 2010 in Bright, Color Palette, Home office, Hottest Designers, Modern, Multicolor, Teen Bedroom, White

If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve posted a link to an anonymous online survey at the top of my right sidebar. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to answer my short list of questions =) One of your requests was to see more teen bedrooms, and since your wish is my command, lets kick it of with this amazing teen girls bedroom designed by Amanda Nisbet:

*

It’s a colorful treat on a white backdrop. The room is set on a brown and pink striped carpet. I wonder if this West Elm daybed doubles as a bed, or if there is another bed in this teen room? The yellow sidetable is called Trollsta and is from at Ikea, while the silver pouf is available at the Cross Design.

*

The color palette is defined by this fun collection of accent pillows.

*

And for good measure, here is a breakdown of the color palette for you ;)

*

Amanda chose this fabulous Mason Wood Top Desk and combined it with the Surf Office Chair and interesting Bracket Shelves. Chrome and white is the red line here. Notice how the colors of the room are represented in the details.

*

This beautiful white dresser has all a girl needs for getting ready; a large mirror, some great lighting and of course a bright yellow jewelry box.

Happy Monday friends!
