Chic White Home

July 14, 2010 in Bedroom, Chic, Living room, Modern, Nursery/ Kids room, Stairways, White

These images were published in Style at Home a while ago and have been relaxing in my inspiration files for far too long!

modern chic white living room with turquoise accents

This living room is strikingly gorgeous with the high contrast between the dark hardwood floors and off white walls. I’m in love with the pair of mirrored chests!

*

modern chic white living room with blue accent throw pillows and lucite table

Isn’t the area rug fab? Not to mention the blue tinted class coffee table. Blue/turquoise looks to be the go-to color in this fabulous home.

*

The tulip table has been around for a long time, and it doesn’t seem like it is going out fashion anytime soon.

*

modern chic white and coral red bedroom

The master bedroom is accented with red/purple tones, accentuating the wooden bed frame.

This blue and pink nursery is the cuteness. Do you think it’s for a girl or a boy? I’m thinking the former, but this could easily be used for both genders (in my opinion).

2 Tricks for a Blue and Yellow Color Palette

June 11, 2010 in Blue, Bright, Dining room, Hottest Designers, Kitchen, Living room, Modern, Nursery/ Kids room, Teen Bedroom, Yellow

HGTV Canada’s design duo Colin and Justin are two of my new color heroes (I have many). Since I don’t live in Canada I hadn’t heard of them of seen their show before, but boy am I glad I came across these two. What I like about their design style is their fantastic color palettes. For instance here are some of their lively blue and yellow designs:

*

modern gray and yellow kitchen

This narrow kitchen is opened up with open shelving. Glossy bright yellow shelving mind you. The wall paint looks something like BM Airway and is accented with bright yellow. White, which is a very reflective and “competitive” color works as the perfect middle man in this color relationship. Can you see what I mean?

*

Another thing Colin and Justin often do is using the same color palette throughout the floor plan. In this dining room the blue wall color is continued into the base molding and floating shelves, while the yellow accent is kept to a minimum.

*

modern blue gray and yellow living room with yellow sectional sofa

This modern blue and yellow living room is normally not my style, I usually require drapery on the windows, area rug under the coffee table and a ceiling lamp of some kind, but the color palette is so great that I would gladly move in (and install the drapery later =).

light blue and yellow kids bedroom

Blue and yellow kids room. Notice what a tiny amount of yellow is used in this room, just lining on the curtains and accent pillows, plus a couple of vases filled with fresh flowers.

*

So what can we learn from Colin and Justin about using blue and yellow in our interiors?

  1. The cool soothing blue is a great base for a vibrant yellow, and is best used together with bright white.
  2. Introduce a dash of yellow on a richer blue background. Use a more muted blue for larger yellow surfaces

So what do you thing of using blue and yellow as a color combination for a room? Would you ever?

May 30, 2010 in Bedroom, Bright, Color Palette, Hottest Designers, Nursery/ Kids room, Teen Bedroom

Hi guys! I’ve been super busy for the last few days, so I’m making up with some fun fresh color inspiration. These are teen rooms, and they are all designed by Charlotte, NC based interior design firm Lucy and Company. If it is color you want, check out their website!

modern chic teen bedroom gray grey purple green yellow

A gray base with pastel lilac, green and yellow is a fun and untraditional color palette for a teen girls bedroom, don’t you think? The yellow green (I refuse to spell out chartreuse. Whoops!), I prefer to call it “puke green” myself, is the popping color that pulls this room together. You can see it is used on the lamp shades and blinds as well as on the accent wall.

A beige teen boys bedroom with an accent wall painted in browns and baby blue stripes. This color palette is very adaptable as the boy transforms into a little man =)

modern teen bedroom pink red purple and green with flower mural

This teen girls bedroom is pink, but by no means babyish. Bright accent colors like apple green, purple, red and orange makes takes it from girls room to teen room.

An adult bedroom can have a splash of color too, like this gray and brown accented with a lovely burnt orange. I LOOOVE the checkered accent wall in this room. So chic!
