TIMOTHY WHEALON / ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
This entry is traditional meets contemporary – at it’s very best! Timothy played on the classic aspects of the room and jazzed it up with pops of mint green and fuchsia. The Chinoiserie inspired mural emphasizes the height of the room, while at the same time tying it all together. Insanely pretty! Happy Easter my Friends! Xox Linda

DAVID SCOTT / MARILI FORASTIERI
I’ve had a lot of questions about this koi wallpaper in the lovely powder room featured in this post. The wallpaper is obviously hand painted, which you can tell when there is no pattern repeat. I believe it’s from de Gournay (please correct me if I’m wrong), which means most of us can’t afford it.
*
Luckily I came across a more affordable version on Wallpaper Direct. What do you think? Is this a good alternative, or does the pattern repeat ruin the charm?

Raise your hand if you haven’t seen this home office before. I’m guessing there aren’t a lot of hands in the air. Then you probably also know that this is Designer Mary McDonald‘s private home office. The feature wall is hand painted by Artist Jefferson Miles, and the classic black and white fashion photos include framed tear-outs from magazines.

Get the look with this gorgeous chinoiserie wallpaper by Sarah Hardaker. As the name implies, this wallpaper has a grand pattern, I’d love to see this one on a wall. The best thing about it is that you can order the wallpaper with any color you’d like, so as to match your wall color, for no extra cost! I never knew that was possible anywhere.

You can read more about Mary and her designs in one of 1st Dibs great Style Compass Magazines!

So tell me, If you HAD TO buy one of these today, which one would you get? (price vs. style)
The pattern on wallpaper is usually repeated throughout. This is what separates printed wallpaper from the hand painted variety. Only drawback? The hand painted variety is obviously super expensive. Like $500 per square meter expensive. Since I love the look of hand pained wall papers, and chances are that you do too, I thought I’d round up a few ways to achieve this look without breaking the bank. But first, let’s take a look at the real thing:
Hand painted wallpaper makes it possible to achieve beautiful non-repeated scenery which isn’t possible with standard wallpaper. Beautiful, isn’t it?
*
Here’s four ideas on how to achieve the hand painted wallpaper look:
1. Printed Murals:
There are actually printed mural wallpapers available, like this one by York Wallcoverings. A good alternative for a feature wall.
*
2. Hire a painter.
WINDSOR SMITH / SCOTT WATERMAN
This wall is painted by LA based artist Scott Waterman.
*
Allison Cosmos is a professional mural painter. At $75 an hour this isn’t an option for everyone though. This girl is insanely talented, click the link to see more of her work!
*
3. Paint a mural yourself!
If you are a good painter, you can free hand a mural yourself. If you don’t consider yourself a good painter, pick a beautiful scene and trace around it on a transparent sheet. Use an overhead projector or mount the sheet in front of a bright lamp. Move the projector further away from the wall you are working on to make the scene larger. Then trace around the shadows on your wall, and fill in with paint. To achieve more depth, paint on wallpaper!

4. Invest in stencils.
The Stencile Library has a large collection of multi-layered stencils. This requires little artistic abilities, and the result is simply stunning! Here is an example of the result you can get with these stencils. This particular wall is created using this stencil.
*
Here’s a closeup of the stenciled wallpaper. To top it all of, Helen, the proud owner of this bedroom wall, placed crystals in the birds eyes and on the flowers. I LOVE this!
*
Here you can see that this mural consists of 4 panels. Many of their stencils constitute three or four layers (sheets) for each stencil design, which means you can use many different colors on one stencil, and achieve a nice depth. The girls at the Stencil Library shows lots of examples on their blog ;)

Have a great day everyone!
Before creating this website, I had a tiny file on my computer with my favorite interior pictures. That tiny file has grown into 500 files with 7000 images by the way. But I digress. Well, one of the pictures in that tiny file of mine was a smaller version of the pic below. Ever since then I have been in love with the print hanging over the sofa, but haven’t been able to find out anything about it. Yesterday as I was looking through the portfolio of Kwinter & Co Design, it turned up again, and now I am asking you if you happen to know anything about it?
*

And here it is.

Now let’s take a look at the rest of this gorgeous room. The living room is actually white with rich gray carpeting and a beige cowhide flower rug (available here). The wall behind the gray velour sofa is completely covered in mirrors. Nice glass coffee table too.
*

Side view. Black lamp shades are pretty and creates a good mood, but is not for lighting up, that’s for sure. But who cares when you have windows like that in the living room?
*

A folding screen is mounted on the wall as artwork behind a white cabinet.
*

Here is a closer look at the deep brown armchairs. Beautiful carvings and nailhead trim.
