You know this is going to be a fun experience when the entry door is decorated with huge metal peacocks!

The details of this window are so pretty! Comes through perfectly with the black and white color scheme.

Super dramatic black bedroom with shiny white floors. Bedside lamps mounted on the ceiling is a great solution for a tiny bedroom.

The white iron patio furniture is covered with multi colored- and patterned cushions. LOL at the birdcage in the sun umbrella! Hippie chic?

Hi guys! The cool people over at Southern Living Magazine sent me a copy of the October issue to review their new design, and what they shared with me, I will now share with you! So, here is a sneak peak of my favorite details from the mag:

The Home we are visiting is that of a priest, and his home, designed by architect Linda MacArthur, is inspired by the great Gothic Churches of the medieval period:
*

First of all, the entry is gorgeous! The arched outer door framed by the raw bricks is sparingly decorated with an over sized lantern, a big pumpkin and a simple fall wreath of leafs and nuts. The best part is the “story book” roof! It is a mix of red, orange and green tiles. The Gothic wheel window typically seen in the medieval churches is brought into the foyer as legs for a console table!
*

One of the most prominent features of Gothic architecture is the pointed spears and arches. See how beautifully this is incorporated into the railing of the stairway. The building you see on the right is the pool house. It has a chandelier and a fireplace! Can you recognize the shapes of the arches? I love how nothing is really overlooked here, even the brick road has the pointed arch pattern. Oh- and a cute detail: a door knocker on the living room door. (That cat is always camera ready!)

Three gorgeous lanterns illuminate the hallway.
*

Now this is something we haven’t seen much of, dark blue walls. This regal color is in stark contrast to the light colors we are used to see on the walls, and a very welcome change.
*

I love how the lamp-light divides the room into small cozy zones. You wont get that effect with a lighter color wall.
*

LOVE the shiny red vitrine/book shelf/desk (?)!
*

Blue walls, beige carpets and dark wood furniture. Heavy and masculine, with pretty pillows and tulip bouquets.

If you are planning on decorating a fun theme room for your kids, look no further than to the Madonna Inn (discovered through Retro Renovation) for inspiration:
*
Each room is designed in a different theme. This is the Old Mill family room with two king sized beds and a hand painted mural. To read more about each room, click the pic!

Carin is the super girly all pink bedroom. Perfect for Barbie and Ken!
*
The Chestnut Foal is a green and brown horse themed room. Check out the Merry-Go-Round ceiling lamp!
*
This tyrian purple and burgundy red bedroom is accented with golden mirror frames and classic teardrop chandeliers. To achieve a baroque theme, go for regal colors and velvet (or velour). I would go for another color carpet though. This room is named Dez, and might not be suited for a kid, lol.
*
The Mountain view has a nice relaxed atmosphere with brown carpeting, green walls and a great white bed with some wild zebra prints!
*
Merry is a sparkling pink bedroom with chandeliers by the dozen.
*

This kitchen has the perfect balance between simple surfaces and gorgeous details! Black walls with white trim and cabinets.
*

Cafe latte walls with white trim and rich brown furniture in this super cozy living room.
*

This stairway is just fantastic! Love the dark wood steps and white railing, not to mention the chandelier.
*

Rich brown bedroom with white trim makes a super cozy atmosphere.
*

Old pink and white girls bedroom. I love a kid’s room which doesn’t need a total renovation every couple of years.
*

Beautiful brown bathroom with built-in tub.

View more photos from this gorgeous home here! I think the language in the page is Dutch (correct me if I’m wrong) and I can’t read it, but I’m pretty sure Mi Casa is a Belgian architect firm? Whatever they are doing, it looks absolutely fantastic!
Take a look at this multi patterned dining room designed by Sherrill Canet. This room is breaking just about all the rules of pattern combination, and it works surprisingly well!
*

Small, high contrast pattern on both walls and floor. Zebra mirror frame over the fireplace, and pattern-paintings on the wall! The room is accented with yellow, and even the ceiling got that note.
*

Same room with different chairs. I love this horn dining table. Impressing!
