Opulent Blue Bedroom

Whenever I hear the name Mary McDonald, words like grand, bold, opulence and regency come to my mind.  Just take a look at Mary’s own bedroom:

Isn’t it fabulous? Dramatic colors, heavy drapery and bold patterns.

My favorite aspect of Mary’s bedroom is the great and highly affordable framework of the room. See the fabulous carpeting? The bold pattern is obviously painted right on there. The second to-die-for part of this bedroom is the molding. A trip to your local hardware store and a bit of practice with the angle saw, this room should be pretty affordable to emulate (although the original is anything but affordable ;)

Get the look with BM Mariner Blue, a healthy dose of crisp white and pops of pale pinks. And don’t forget to add some glamour with gold details.

Traditional Chic Bedroom

October 18, 2010 in Bedroom, Beige, Classic, Dramatic, Feminine, Glamorous, Gray, Greige, Hottest Designers, Luxurious, Steal the Style, Wallpaper / Tiles / Murals

New York Based interior designer Brett Beldock  of Brett Design inc is behind this luxurious bedroom design:

I’m loving the over sized paisley wallpaper pattern in this bedroom. It certainly adds a lot of drama to the room. The color palette is soft but dramatic with taupe and smokey light blue.  Adding to the drama is the heavy curtains mounted just underneath the ceiling, draping onto the floor, and the carefully planned lighting.

*

Zooming in we get to take a closer look at the bed. Notice the padded headboard.. it has got armrests! At the end of the bed Brett placed a Gustavian bench. I love the warm red color of the lamp shades too.

The wallcovering is called Rajapur by Cole & Son, the Gray and yellow Ikat pillow is available at Etsy and designed by Elegant Touch, and the drop dead gorgeous gray herringbone throw is available at Utmost Fashion.

This gorgeous blue and pink bedroom is part of  a Hamptons Showhouse sponsored by Traditional Home, and is designed by Elizabeth Bailey:

modern chic blue and pink bedroom

The bedroom is very luxurious and feminine. Don’t you just love the pops of pink? The floors have wall-to-wall carpeting, and still an area rug is layered atop. I love it!

The color palette of this bedroom consists of Farrow & Ball Skylight #205, creams and tans, black contrast and fun pops of pink. Visit Traditional Home for a complete resource list for this room.

Fresh flowers on the nightstand is a luxury I could get used to. Notice how the blue bed drapes are lined with pink and white zigzag fabric. What do you think about this bedroom?

Metal Chain Curtain Holders

July 30, 2010 in Glamorous, Modern, Silver

You know when you see something and you’re not sure if you love it or hate it? You decide to think it over for a few days, and  then you cant get it out of your mind.. We’ve all been there, right? Well that’s what happened when I came across  these shiny metal chain style curtain holders. I totally convinced myself these would be the perfect accessory to my living room, and that they would give the room some bold fearless Kelly Wearstler zing (i wish).. Now I just don’t know..

My curtains are a light sand beige color (not dirt white as in the pic) and made of linen and cotton. I love the rough texture and natural feel, especially when the sun shines through. I thought the metallic curtain holders would make a great contrast with the natural curtains, and they really are, but it just doesn’t look right. Now that they are up they look way too heavy and over the top.

I don’t know what I’ll do with them, but for now I’ll keep them up, maybe it just takes time getting used to. What do you think (I can handle it ;)
