Glamour by Tobi Fairley

February 4, 2011 in Bedroom, Blue, Bright, Chic, Classic, Color Palette, Glamorous, Gray, Hottest Designers, Living room, Luxurious

I’m sure most of you remember this unforgettable cover of House Beautiful. The room is designed by Tobi Fairley (of course :)

*

The blue color is mesmerizing, don’t you think? It’s such a fresh and clear color, but not at all overbearing. I was a bit surprised to see (what I believe is the) un-edited photos of the same room. The colors are so different:

*

But beautiful all the same. Isn’t it amazing what color alone can do for a room? The bluer version comes off as more playful and daring, while the blue-gray (un-edited) colorway result in a more classic sophisticated look. I’m kind of fascinated with the “empty” painting above the sofa. I feel creativity flowing just by looking at it!

Living room paint colors: Poolside and Sky

*

Moving on to the bedroom, a real piece of eye candy.

*

Everything in this bedroom screams glamour to me, the tufted velvet headboard, the shimmering bedspread, mirrored dressers and the gorgeous sun mirror. But most of all, the lamps *swoon*

*

And here is the un-edited version. I love both colorways of this room too, but the pops of pink in the former two images definitely added a little something extra.

*

I have to say I’m kind of obsessed with those table lamps!

*

Aaaand that’s it! So tell me, which colorway would you choose for your living room / bedroom, the fresh fun blues, or the sophisticated grays?

Golden Hues by Jan Showers

JAN SHOWERS

I just love this golden bedroom designed by Jan Showers. Isn’t it warm and cozy? Layers and layers of fabric and beautiful details like nailhead trim and glass tops makes this bedroom look so luxurious.

*

Color palette for this room: Benjamin Moore Mysic Gold. Combine beiges, camels, browns and champagne, just make sure they all have a yellow undertone =) A hint of black ads depth and drama, while shiny gold adds the perfect touch of luxury.

Sophisticated Elegance: White on Brown

KELLY PROXMIRE

A clean color palette of brown and white is a sure hit if you are aiming for a elegant and sophisticated look in your home. The point is proven in this beautiful living room designed by Kelly Proxmire.

With such a simple color palette, the details are all the more important. White molding creates depth not only on the ceiling, but also on furniture and doors. Notice how Kelly combines damask fabrics with chevron and dots in the next photo:

The deep rich paint color is such a wonderful backdrop for curvy white furniture like this, don’t you think? I really see the gorgeous details in the ceiling as the icing on the cake. Such a delightful detail.

Color Roundup: Pearl Gray and Indigo

January 19, 2011 in Bedroom, Classic, COLOR ROUNDUPS, Glamorous, Gray, Living room, Luxurious, Silver, White

Here’s a lovely color combination for you;  silvery pearl gray with indigo and blue. We have seen a lot of neutrals combined with punches of warm color, so this combination of only cool colors is quite refreshing, don’t you think? I can only describe this room as refined glamour. I’m sure many of you have seen it before, and already know it’s designed by the one and only Windsor Smith.

Sconce, Horn votive holders, Mirrored tray, Indigo velvet pillow, Ivory velvet pillow

I’ve been seeing that gorgeous wallpaper everywhere lately, but always in other color schemes. It’s hand pained of course, the traders can be contacted here =)

*

I’m really fascinated by the fact that Windsor chose to place the two sofas back-to-back instead of facing each other. This way she created two individual seating areas in one living room, as opposed to one conversation area. Very interesting, has anyone seen this type of arrangement before? And would you ever do this in your own home?

Caldwell Flake is the mother and daughter design team behind this fabulous bedroom. At first glance this is a pretty clean and simple room, but when we take a closer look:

*

We can see how big a role texture plays. Shiny pearl headboard combined with white cotton bed linen, topped with silver faux alligator skin pillows. How fabulous!

*

Modern and classics effortlessly combined.
