Michael Penney does Primary Colors

August 26, 2011 in Bright, Chic, Hottest Designers, Living room, Mood Board, Multicolor, White

design by Michael Penney, photography by Kim Jeffery

It is not often you see designers use more than one primary color in a room. I like to think it’s bacause it is hard to avoid the “lego” atmosphere when combining red, blue and yellow. All the more impressing when you see it as perfectly done as in this living room. It’s the work of Michael Penney.

Michael used small amounts of primary colors on a light background, varying the color intensities from pale to deep.

Blue pillow, striped pillow, red pillow, chandelier, lamp, tray fabric, votives

Polyvore is fun!

Golden Hues by Jan Showers

January 30, 2011 in Bedroom, Beige, Color Palette, Gold, Hottest Designers, Lighting, Luxurious, Mood Board, Steal the Style

JAN SHOWERS

I just love this golden bedroom designed by Jan Showers. Isn’t it warm and cozy? Layers and layers of fabric and beautiful details like nailhead trim and glass tops makes this bedroom look so luxurious.

*

Color palette for this room: Benjamin Moore Mysic Gold. Combine beiges, camels, browns and champagne, just make sure they all have a yellow undertone =) A hint of black ads depth and drama, while shiny gold adds the perfect touch of luxury.

My entry for Moodboard Monday

November 8, 2010 in Beige, Exotic, Living room, Mood Board, Natural

Sarah over at Pewter + Sage is hosting these fun moodboard challenges on certain Mondays, where she gives us a few pieces of furniture or photos to work from. Here’s the image I decided to use as inspiration, a photo by Helen Norman, and my moodboard:

*

1 moodboard inspiration plantation style

Looking at this picture I immediately thought gray velvet sofa and brass coffee table. Magnifying glasses always makes me think of biology, hence the anatomy art. I also summed up the architecture postcard in the photo, with an Eiffel Tower print. Here’s how I would use it:

*

Sofa, zebra pillow, ikat pillows, coffee table, sidetables, table lamps, mirror, artwork

I picked flask green table lamps to inject some color, and repeated the color in the green and blue ikat pillows. After creating so many color palettes I have concluded that every room should have at least 2 accent colors, so I threw in some fuchsia. So that’s it, a layered botanical chic living room.

This was so much fun, I will definitely join Sara’s moodboard Mondays again, you should too! If you don’t have a photo editing program you can use Polyvore for free =)
